Tobacco dependency: how can we help smokers quit?

Posted on: 22 Nov 2017

70% of current smokers would like to quit, and 30% try every year. However, only around 3% access specialist smoking cessation services. With increasing cuts to smoking cessation funding, how can primary care professionals offer their patients the best chance of quitting?

Dr Noel Baxter is a GP and Clinical Commissioner in southeast London, and the current chair of PCRS-UK. In this video he offers recommendations and describes smoking cessation treatment options that have been shown to be most effective. He also addresses the subject of e-cigarettes and whether they play a role in treating tobacco dependency.
