The burden of asthma attacks in the UK

Posted on: 17 Dec 2020

Natalie Harper (Respiratory Consultant Nurse) is joined by Dr Mark Levy (General Practitioner) and Navinder Matharu (Pharmacist) to discuss the burden of asthma attacks on the healthcare system in the UK. The experts continue to discuss post-attack reviews and the worrying relationship between high short-acting beta-agonist (SABA) inhaler use and non-adherence to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS). Dr Levy initiates a key discussion on the need to holistically assess the patient when assessing the risk of a future asthma attack. Also, as a community pharmacist, Navinder details the new retail pharmacy schemes which allow pharmacists access to a patient’s asthma management.
