MISSION in asthma, breathlessness and COPD

Posted on: 4 Aug 2017

Modern Innovative Solutions in Improving Outcomes (MISSION) was a novel project, piloted in Wessex, to improve the care of respiratory disease. MISSION Asthma used a series of carousel-style rapid-access clinics to identify patients with potentially severe asthma. These patients were subsequently invited to attend a separate clinic for multidisciplinary assessment and development of a personalised care plan.

A similar programme exists for COPD and has contributed to a reduction in GP, out-of-hours and emergency department visits and hospital admissions. On account of the local pilot’s success, the MISSION programme is now being rolled out across the UK.
