Respiratory disease is one of the few clinical priorities to feature in the NHS Long Term Plan.

Why?

  • Respiratory disease is very common
  • Diagnosis of respiratory disease is often late and inaccurate
  • There is unwarranted variation in capacity and standards in providing pulmonary rehabilitation services
  • England compares badly with its European neighbours in terms of hospital admissions and mortality
