GOLD and NICE have published updates to their COPD guidance in the past two months.

In this podcast, Steve Holmes (Somerset GP) and Carol Stonham (Gloucestershire Primary Care Respiratory Nurse) highlight the key points from each, focusing on the differences and similarities. No changes arise in their recommendations for the components of an accurate diagnosis. One major difference is in their recommendations for initial pharmacological treatment: dual bronchodilators (LABA + LAMA) for NICE, LAMA for GOLD.

NICE will be reviewing their guidance in six months’ time, looking at evidence of triple therapy.
