Five Year Forward View: Where does respiratory health fit in?

Posted on: 28 Sep 2017

The Five Year Forward View proposed nine national areas of priority in public health and illness prevention. Service development over the next few years is likely to focus on meeting these priorities. The priorities, first identified in 2015, were updated and refined in the 2016 ‘Operational Planning and Contracting Guidance’ document.

Respiratory conditions are not specifically mentioned in the Forward View. However, opportunities to focus on respiratory care can be found within each of the nine listed priorities. The ‘Where does respiratory health fit in?’ guide was therefore developed by the Primary Care Respiratory Academy. It offers guidance on how services can meet the needs of respiratory patients, while simultaneously delivering on STP objectives and addressing the Forward View’s priorities for improvement.
